Here’s Molly Ellson!

Here’s Molly Ellson, and here’s a little background on EC’s new assistant editor. Her skills in writing, editing, and her enthusiasm for fairy tales and the job in front of her helped make her the right fit for EC.

“Hi Enchanted Conversationalists! My name is Molly, and I’m an English graduate from the UK. When I’m not fervently attempting to make a dent in my “to-read list,”  I enjoy crafting, reducing my impact on the environment, and writing. I graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2018 and, since then, I am grateful to have had some wonderful opportunities: I spent seven months in France, working as an English Language Assistant; I have written professionally for the splendid Dean Street Press; and in February of this year, I interned as an editorial assistant at Penguin Random House.”

Fairy tale faves?

“Like most, I was ensorcelled by fairy tales from a young age. I’d remain entranced by whichever mystical realm was narrated to me, long after after the book had been closed and it was time for bed. As I grew, the magically dark and twisted realms of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials and P.C and Kristen Cast’s House of Night Series were often much more attractive than the frustratingly dull world surrounding my teenage self. They, amongst many others, provided an escape from a hectic, often tiresome, and technology-driven life. They still do now. My favorite thing about fairy tales is that, despite folklore being notorious in its antiquity, there is always such wide scope to challenge old narratives and adapt the genre to address modern tropes.”

How will she help Enchanted Conversation?

“Firstly, I cannot wait to delve into the fantastical world of Enchanted Conversation, and have the opportunity to engage with some of the talented writers and artists here. With energy, enthusiasm and some social media savvy, I want to increase EC’s online presence, hopefully attracting more wonderful supporters into the community, and help the magazine gain the wider recognition it deserves.” (Note from Kate: She’s already started on this. So exciting!)

“I would like to thank Kate for welcoming me into the Enchanted Conversation family. I am truly excited to embark on a fantastical journey, learning as much as I can, and providing the best support possible along the way.” (You’re welcome, Molly! It’s nice to have you aboard! KW)
