Into ‘The Wilds’

How could a new series described like the following possibly connect to fairy tales?

“Part survival drama, part dystopic slumber party, ‘The Wilds’ follows a group of teen girls from different backgrounds who must fight for survival after a plane crash strands them on a deserted island. The castaways both clash and bond as they learn more about each other, the secrets they keep, and the traumas they’ve all endured. There’s just one twist to this thrilling drama… these girls did not end up on this island by accident.”

Wow! That’s some promo!

Are they a gang of Gretels just trying to get over that all-important body of water (symbolizing crossing into maturity in “Hansel and Gretel”)? Are they a bunch of Red Riding Hoods, who seem to have already fallen off the safest path in the woods of life and may have deliberately been set up to be eaten by metaphorical (or possibly literal) wolves? Are they a bunch of Rapunzels, locked up in their own kind of tower by adults who only do things for their own reasons?

I don’t know, but I want to find out. The trailer definitely gets your interest, but I have a much bigger, much better reason to watch:

My wonderful niece, Sarah Pidgeon, who narrates most of the trailer, plays Leah in the series. That’s right, my sweet, friendly, hardworking and very, very  talented niece has a juicy role playing the girl in the group who only cares about love. She’s the one who goes into the water at the end. Sarah/Leah is the one asking a lot of questions in the trailer.

I am so excited about this series and Sarah’s opportunity. (That’s her, above.) She has worked tirelessly to become an actress, but her talent was clear years ago. Indeed, it was when she played the lead in “Cinderella” at Interlochen Center for the Arts that it became clear that Sarah had serious talent. She was really just a kid, a middle schooler, but she shined brightly.

I knew for sure Sarah would be a successful, working actress when, in her senior year at Interlochen, she played the Baker's Wife in “Into the Woods.” She was required to sing on a revolving stage, walking in the opposite direction from the spinning stage while singing her big solo and absolutely crushing it—all the while having 103 degree fever and a very nasty virus. I knew if she could nail that, she could make acting a real career.

So you see, fairy tales have played a big part in Sarah’s life.

I do hope you all will share the video with friends and family and your fans. Please let me know if you do! This show is going to be good, and any way I can help the word of mouth for the “The Wilds” will make me very happy.

“The Wilds” premieres on Dec. 11, on Amazon Prime. Here’s the link to the trailer again.
