Happy 2021!
EC is welcoming two new additions to our team this year, and we’d like to introduce them to our readers. So say “hello” to Amanda Bergloff and Kelly Jarvis and learn a little bit about them below.
Hello to all of the fabulous readers of Enchanted Conversation!
I’m Amanda Bergloff, and I’m so excited to be working with Kate Wolford and her EC team as a contributing editor and art director going forward in 2021.
I have had a lifelong love of fairy tales starting with the beautifully illustrated fairy tale picture books I had growing up. I happen to still have those picture books in my collection, and they still inspire me to this day.
I am a speculative fiction writer with stories appearing in various anthologies, including Stories from the World of Tomorrow, Frozen Fairy Tales, After the Happily Ever After, Uncommon Pet Tales, and Trembling with Fear, as well as having stories published online in The Were-Traveler, Flash Fiction Press, 200 CCs, Dimension 9, and more.
I’m also a graphic artist and have created cover designs and interior art for Crimson Dreams, New Myths Magazine, Firefly Magazine, The Evening Theater, Twisted Sister Literary Magazine, BackChannels Journal, and Tiny Spoon Literary Magazine, among other publications. Kate has a lot of new plans for 2021, and I’m excited about bringing my design and editorial experience to Enchanted Conversation this year. You can find my digital art portfolio here.
I live in Denver, Colorado, collect books, toys, and comics, and also design and make fairy tale inspired costumes and masks.

The staff of Enchanted Conversation is thrilled to welcome Kelly Jarvis as Special Projects Writer. Kelly is a talented writer filled with enthusiasm about fairy tales. Learn more about her below, in her own words:
Greetings to everyone in the Enchanted Conversation community! My name is Kelly, and I am so pleased to be joining the Enchanted Conversation team as a Special Projects Writer. I hope to share my stories, essays, and poetry with you and look forward to interacting with and learning from the many talented writers who publish on the site.
What background do you bring to Enchanted Conversation?
I hold University degrees in English, Psychology, Education, and Communications, and my graduate level work specialized in the study of women and marriage in 18th and 19th century British Domestic Fiction. Although my master's thesis focused on writers like Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, my study of the 19th century led me to an academic interest in fairy tales which I now share with my students at Central Connecticut State University, The University of Connecticut, and Tunxis Community College. I regularly teach a class in fairy tale and folklore titled Once Upon a Time, but I also use fairy tales in my sections of Children’s Literature, Young Adult Literature, British Literature, American Literature, World Literature, Shakespeare, and Composition. My husband and I have three sons (ages 14, 16, and 20), and I try to share my love of reading and writing with them whenever I can.
What is your favorite fairy tale?
My students would tell you that I love ALL the fairy tales (and I do!), but my favorite fairy tale will always be ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ I was first introduced to the story by the animated Disney film, and the idea of a protagonist who loves to read but who also gets to dance with her true love in a beautiful ball gown appeals to the hopeless romantic in me. As I began to research variants of the story and discover narratives like ‘East of the Sun and West of the Moon,’ novels like A Court of Thorns and Roses, and myths like ‘Cupid and Psyche,’ my love for complexity of the tale-type grew. I also enjoy learning about new fairy tales that I have never read before, and I recently read and fell in love with Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Nightingale and the Rose,’ a heartbreaking story about the quest for true love.
Finding Enchanted Conversation and becoming a part of the family here is a dream come true for me. I am so thankful to Kate for welcoming me and supporting me on this new journey to share my writing, and I am grateful to all of you who read my work and share your own. I hope that as Enchanted Conversation continues to grow, it will help more people discover their love for the stories, folklore, and fairy tales which speak to the heart of humanity.
